You want to make money online but don’t know how. There are lots of different ways to make money online. Not all of them require lots of money to start.
Starting a blog is fairly easy and pretty inexpensive. There are several things you need to decide before you start a blog.
What is your blog about?
This is often the hardest thing to decide. Are you going to talk about a lifestyle like parenting or cooking? Do you want to make money with your blog? Or do you want to use your blog to promote your career or family? This decision will help you determine the next step.
You need a name for your blog
Your blog name should tell your readers what you’re blogging about. People often use their names for their blogs because they are a professional. Professionals would include things like coaches, counselors, decorators, photographers, writers…well, you get the idea. If you are blogging about parenting, or money or your favorite hobby, then you should choose a name that reflects that.
Buying a Domain Name
Buying a domain name is the first money you’ll spend. I buy all my domains from godaddy.com. There are lots of places to purchase a domain but I use godaddy.com because they offer an easy way to manage my domains. Buying a domain can cost as little as $1, but don’t pay more than $15 for your domain name. Please understand that you will pay for this name each year and the low price of $1 is only good for the first year. When you renew, you’ll pay the regular price for every additional year.
Hosting Your Blog
Your blog now has a name but it also needs an address. All successful blogs have their own domain name or address. When you type in www.myblog.com, you will go directly to that address or domain name. I recommend using HostGator.com. No, HostGator is not the cheapest but they offer one thing their biggest competitor doesn’t. You can pay HostGator monthly and not have to pay for one year’s hosting at once. Hostgator also offers reliable service with virtually no downtime. That’s a big deal when you are trying to get readers to your site.
Why You Should Choose WordPress
Don’t don’t don’t use blogger or wordpress dot com. This is not the way to be taken seriously. These sites add their name to yours. For example: www.lovedogs.blogger.com sounds more like you are writing for fun instead of as a serious blogger. Please please use this link to learn more about WordPress.
Setting up your own domain name on a Wordpress is not hard. If you’ve bought a domain name and choose to host it on a site like Hostgator, installing WordPress is just as simple as one click. The best part is that installing and using wordpress is FREE!
Design Your Blog
Lastly, choose a theme for your Wordpress site. The theme is how your blog appears. If you visit different sites, you’ll notice there are many that are similar in layout. The layout is determined by the theme. If you find a blog you like and want the same look, you can find out what theme they’re using by going to wpthemedetector and typing in the website name. You can start with a free theme and later change to a more complicated theme that may cost some money. But at least start.
You can really get started with only the cost of a domain name and hosting. This can be as little as $13. That’s a good investment if you plan on using your blog to make money.
Learn How To Use Your Blog
There are lots experts online who will teach you how to make money online their way. Some online experts are good and some are bad. In fact, some are new and they really don’t know anything but have just repackaged someone else’s idea.
My goal is to let you decide if the online expert’s way of making money will work for you. I will be providing you links and explain the generalities of these programs. Then you can decide whether or not it is a program you’d like to try.
Full disclosure, I may or may not receive a small referral fee if you decide to go with one of these programs or online experts. I won’t only recommend programs that offer to pay me if you sign up. I want you to know about all the programs I can find out there. In fact, I’ve noticed that some programs that were popular a few years ago are being recycled. Their originators are hoping to make their idea or program popular again.
